This is my first blog so bare with me as I try to gather my thoughts into this.
Each day, thousands of people log onto facebook to do a variety of things that the website has to offer. I for one, don't use all of the things that facebook has to offer. I mainly check to see if there are any notifications, messages, friend requests, and comments made to things I have said. I also like to see what my friends' status say as it is sometimes very entertaining to read. Every now and then there will be an event listed to which I can go to or decline for some reason. Besides using facebook the way I currently use it for, I'm starting to realize a conundrum in the way I only use it.
Facebook is a great social networking site because it helps keep friends together even after years of not hanging out in person. However, I find myself actually never asking the majority of friends on my facebook to hangout. It almost defeats the purpose of using facebook because like I said previously, the purpose of facebook is to stay connected to friends but in order to truly do that, friends should hangout in person every now and then. Merely commenting what they say on facebook feels like a weak attempt to hold onto a friendship that is dying unless of course, you do hangout with this person every now and then.
I totally agree. I am the type of person, that if I physically cant hang out with you at the current moment in my life; I wont contact you until I can hang out. I might contact that person every now and then just to see how they are doing, but i see no point in talking to someone i cant chill with. Its pointless. I do however use Facebook the same way you do only one more thing. I also use facebook for my photography business. So i have that going for me as well, but its mainly just checking up on mail.
ReplyDeleteI find facebook a very useful tool in keeping in contact with long lost friends. Especially those that had to be spiteful and place restraining orders against you, yes I'm talking about you Catherine Disney. Anyway, Facebook has allowed me to know what people are doing without them knowing I know.
ReplyDeleteI just wish David Zuckerman would stop banning my accounts, it gets a little tedious every time I have to fill out a CAPTCHA time after time.
